Buccleuch Tartan

About the Buccleuch Tartan

The Buccleuch family name is a sept of Clan Scott, however this particular Buccleuch tartan is actually a military tartan designed by the Colonel of the 4th Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers in 1908 and used for the pipers' plaids. Earl Haig's family adopted it since he was also a Colonel of the battalion.

The Buccleuch tartan should have nine black squares between the blue stripes. This, according to J Cant, is the correct version of the Buccleuch check with nine black squares between the blue. The black and white squares measure 5/16 inch and the blue 3/8 inch (about 2 threads more?). Also known as Haig and Gladstone.
