OTHER NAMES WHO WEAR THE Hannay TARTAN:

WHAT DOES THE Hannay NAME MEAN?
The original spelling of the name appears to have been ‘Ahannay’, and although its origin is uncertain, it may derive from the Gaelic ‘O’Hannaidh’, or ‘Ap Shenaeigh’.

WHERE DOES THE Hannay CLAN HAIL FROM?
The Hannays hail from the ancient princedom of Galloway.

Stewart Francis, in his book The Hannays of Sorbie speculates that HANN may be a place name and that the suffix, spelled in whatever way, represents the old word for “island”.
