We’re starting 2022 off with a bang with the Lindsay as our clan of the month! The beautiful maroons, greens and blues in the Lindsay tartans can be easily introduced into your wardrobe and home to bring some much-needed colour into dull January. Here are my top style tips to help inspire you!
The Lindsay Modern tartan hits all the colour trend highlights with its deep maroons and dark forest greens. Trend forecasting website WGSN predicted both shades as being among the top Autumn/Winter colours for 2021/2022;
“Bloodstone (or maroon) has a familiar quality with a darker edge…Evolving from the success of red, and more recently brown, which has been attracting buzz in fashion it calls to mind these heritage themes. Dark Springs (or forest green) offers a more interesting alternative to black, which has been returning with a bang on the recent catwalk shows.”
Lindsay Modern should absolutely feature in your closet! Combining these colours with looks seen on recent catwalks will mean you can’t go wrong.
Vogue.co.uk suggests the classic mini skirt as a starting piece which was seen in the Versace and Valentino shows amongst others. Try pairing a bomber jacket to complete a co-ord look and to add some contrast to the more fitted skirt.
If you are still struggling with the idea of formalwear, swap your jacket for a tartan serape instead! This pairs beautifully with a tartan mini skirt, while keeping your look warm and effortless. Vogue.com completely endorses the outerwear wrap this season;
“Who says a blanket isn’t a garment? Ponchos and capes had a resurgence at Gabriela Hearst, Alberta Ferretti, and Missoni.”
Menswear takes a slightly different approach this season, embracing pleats and kilts for daily wear which I can fully get behind! The key is in keeping the maroon colours and tartan the same as the womenswear, but combining this with neutral earthy tones to avoid looking too over the top. GQ.com confirmed this, saying of the menswear fashion shows;
“Flashes of red have been making a splash on the runways of London, Paris and Milan for some time now, but for AW21 the trend has gone full tilt.”
If you’re looking for a more subtle approach to tartan this January, then try adding a cufflinks for small pops of colour which is sure to brighten up your day in the office.
After all the excitement of the festive period January can feel very dreary, so I like to use this time to add some more exciting pieces to my home to bring back some excitement! To get a really cosy feel in my living room, I like to add touches of deep colours and cosy textures which is really perfect during the colder evenings. A draped piped cushions to match would make the ideal addition to your sanctuary. The darker tartan will match just about any sofa from navy to cream, so you don’t have to entirely redecorate to add some Lindsay – just balance our the tartan with some soft neutral browns and creams. Homesandgardens.com agree, saying;
“A smoky purple is the ideal accent against the now popular earthy neutrals like clay and stone. It comes alive when paired with natural hues such as tawny brown or ochre. If you want to create a stronger impression, team this hue with a punchier violet or magenta, either way this elegant shade will allow you to create a scheme you can snuggle into.”
Alternatively, if you’re looking to add even more of an impact to your home, Livingetc.com suggest going bold with your checks!
“Check is back, and this time it's gone into technicolor. The popular print that just keeps giving, it now seems to have had a celebratory makeover, updated in bright tones and with added gloss.”
If this is more your interior style, switch things up with the bright Lindsay Ancient tartan and go bold! Our 16oz fabric is ideal for upholstery so you can really make an impact with new-looking furniture without having to buy entirely new chairs. As this is so bold, calm down the look with tonal greens and blues to stop your room becoming totally overwhelming.
We always love to hear your unique ways of incorporating your tartan into your outfits as well as your home, so please send us your stories and photographs!
